Powderham estate manager Tim Faulkner
said the success of the Blue concert was yet
another step forward for the castle as it tries to
establish itself as the South West's number one
concert venue. And he promised a host of other big
names for next summer - including the possibility
of Coldplay. He said the Blue concert had been even
bigger and better than they imagined. "Given that
it was the biggest concert Devon has seen. It was
something special," he added. "There was a lot
riding on it for us and it has been great that it
has been such a success.
When Blue came on stage and the crowd went wild it
was amazing. "We would like to thank all the people
who came and made it such a special night. I was
there by the stage and the delight on people's
faces and the delight on the faces of the band was
something special. It was fantastic. "The people at
the front, who were obviously massive fans of the
band, just went wild. Behind them there were
families with children on their shoulders and
everyone was having an incredible time. "In a way
it made it feel like they were a local band.
Obviously it is only Duncan who is from Devon but
it felt like we had adopted them. I think all the
chat from the boys and all the local connections
was lovely. All the stuff like 'anyone here from
Sidmouth.' It was brilliant and made it really
special. "It has been a fantastic summer and we are
going to try and build on it for next year. We are
trying to get some more big names lined-up. "Both
Status Quo and Jools Holland want to come back next
year and we have already got some other big names
we may be able to announce before too long - and
put it this way they are as big as Elton John. "We
plan to do five or six concerts. The one we want to
get is Coldplay and we are trying hard for this. It
is not confirmed yet but we are trying our hardest.
There is the local connection with Coldplay with
Chris Martin and we think this would be really
something special."
