Balintore Castle A-LISTED castle, left abandoned more than 40 years ago, has been rescued from potential demolition after a council used its compulsory purchase powers to save the building. Balintore Castle was built in 1859 as a baronial-style sporting lodge close to the shores of the Loch of Lintrathen, near Kirriemuir, in Angus. The building has been a target for vandals and thieves since it was left vacant in the early 1960s. The castle is believed to have been bought by a consortium of Taiwanese businessmen 13 years ago. Yesterday, Angus Council announced it had used its compulsory purchase powers to buy the castle and to transfer it to a new owner who plans to restore the castle as his permanent home. Balintore
